Breastfeeding Information

Breastfeeding is a normal and natural process. It is much more than just giving your baby your milk, you are providing a bond that will last a lifetime. It is my goal as a Lactation Counselor to help you and your baby learn how to nurse. This can start prenatally with class and book suggestions and carry on postpartum with hands on learning

Lactation Services Provided:

Prenatal Breastfeeding Education:
~This can include a visit to your home to go over breastfeeding basics, I can also make recommendations for other breastfeeding classes in your area as well as help you find books and DVDs that give good, easy to follow tips on how to nurse your baby.

Lactation Counseling in your home after baby is born:
~This includes: helping with latch, finding comfortable breastfeeding positions, sore nipple prevention, and how to deal with engorgement. I can help you assess if the baby is getting enough to eat and what normal feedings are like for a breastfed baby.

Pumping and storage of breast milk:
~This includes: which pump would best fit your situation, how to use the pump, including how to clean and sterilize it.  We can go over how to properly store breastmilk and which bottles are best for switching back and forth between breastfeeding and bottlefeeding.

My certification is as a CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor), if you have breastfeeding needs that are out of my scope of practice (as described above) I can help you find an IBCLC (Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant) in your area.  You will want to make sure that the person who is providing lactation services to you has either a CLE (Certified Lactation Education), CLC, is a LLL Leader or has an IBCLC certification in order to get the best care.
