Postpartum Doula Services: Emotional Support: ~Supporting new parents by offering a non-judgmental ear ~Helping parents learn and grow into their new roles, whether that new role is as a first time parent or encompasses learning how to juggle the needs of multiple children ~Supporting postpartum adjustment by validating what you are feeling at the time ~Helping mothers experiencing pregnancy and/or postpartum mood disorders ~Assisting siblings as they adjust to their new roles Education: ~Advising on newborn developmental milestones ~Guidance on all baby care including how to give the first bath, swaddling, burping techniques, soothing, baby wearing (I own an Ergo, Ring Sling, and Moby Wrap that I can bring for you to see) and more ~Breastfeeding Counseling (please see my breastfeeding page for more information on this) ~Going over ways to increase bonding including kangaroo care and infant massage ~Provides referrals for other community support people including birth doulas, massage therapists, counselors, midwives,etc. depending upon your needs ~Provides a lending library of books and DVDs on many postpartum related topics (please see the Lending Library link for the most current list) Physical Support: ~Helping with childcare so that new parents can shower, nap or eat a meal ~Accompanying families on outings such as to the Doctor's office or grocery store, it can be helpful to have an extra set of hands on the first few outings ~Meal preparation and planning, loading the dishwasher and laundry services ~Help with organizing the home, this can include setting up feeding/diapering stations around the house, helping to sort through and arrange newborn clothing,etc. ~Running errands so that you don't have to leave the house, this can include trips to the grocery store and pharmacy ~Going over comfort measures for postpartum healing Postpartum Consultations: This is a separate service for those parents wanting emotional support, breastfeeding help and general teaching during the postpartum period but do not need physical support/household organization such as doing dishes, laundry, making meals,etc. These are similar to the baby planning services/consultations but take place postpartum instead of prenatally. As many consultations as desired can be purchased and these sessions last up to an hour and a half each. Antepartum Doula Services Provided: ~Childcare for older siblings so that you can rest during your 3rd trimester ~Meal preparation ~Organization of the home so that everything will be in order when the new baby arrives, this includes but isn't limited to: helping to set up the nursery, getting diaper changing stations ready, washing and organizing baby clothes, making sure that you have all the supplies you will need for postpartum ~Putting together baby equipment ~Doing laundry and washing dishes Baby Planning Services/Consultations: This is a separate service for those parents that want help planning their postpartum periods but do not want to have doula care. The way this service works is I come to your home for 1-2 prenatal visits that last up to an hour and a half each, during which time we plan out what you will need for yourself and your baby for the immediate postpartum period. This can include things like: registry planning, which brands of baby items work best, baby carriers, breast pumps, nursing supplies, car seats, and the list goes on!
